Change in ABHA Membership Fees 2017
Announcement from ABHA:
The Board of Directors would like to announce a change to the ABHA membership fees for 2017. Riders will now be covered for 'Personal Rider Insurance' at ABHA sanctioned events through Affinity Insurance.
The new fee structure incorporates the discounted rider insurance that the ABHA have secured with Affinity.
Annual fees are Seniors $60, Juniors $30 and Day Memberships $20. The Board of Directors would also like to announce they have introduced a 'Non-Competing' membership $15. There will be added benefits such as a $25 discount off float/Gooseneck insurance when taken out through Affinity.
This policy will also cover our non-member volunteers and will supersede our current volunteer insurance policy.
Below is a summary of the coverage:
Member Personal Accident and Voluntary Workers (Quotation)
Insurer: Accident & Health International (CGU) Australia
The Benefits provided in this Policy shall be restricted as follows and will only be payable when:
a) The requirements of the Policy are satisfied for a payment to be made to an Insured person; and
b) That Insured person is:
i) A current financial member of the ABHA
ii) Any current financial member whilst participating in a sanctioned ABHA event including all voluntary workers
iii) Engaged in necessary direct travel to and from such activities
Summary of Benefits:
Capital Benefits $60,000 (For persons aged under 18 and over 65 the Accidental Death Benefit, Event 1, is reduced to $10,000)
Weekly Accident Benefit (income earners); 85% of Earnings to a maximum of $500 per week
Injury Assistance Benefit (non income earners); 85% of the actual cost up to a maximum of $300 per week. This includes Domestic Home Help and Child Minding
Parental Allowance; $50 per day to a maximum of $1,000 in total
Broken bones up to $3,000
Funeral Expenses; $5,000
Non Medicare Medical Expenses; 85% of the actual cost up to a maximum of $5,000, Excess $50
Benefit Period: 52 weeks; 14 Day Excess

If you are turning 18 in 2019:
From the date you turn 18 you are no longer able to compete in the Junior events.
You will retain your junior points for end of year standings.

Event entry fees will remain the same for the 2019 season. Please note arena levy is per horse .

Arena Levy: $3 per RIDER
Posted prize money per round will increase this season.
Open Barrels: $300
Junior Barrels $150
As well as posted prizemoney there will still be the 60% addback for barrels and 80% addback for poles.
Due to a drop in numbers over the years junior barrels will remain a 3 Divisional
However Junior Barrels will also be changed to a 2 run format.

Round 6 & 7: 24th & 25th August @ Peterborough Rodeo Grounds
In the case of 6 points rounds for the year- you will need to attend 4 to be eligible for end of year awards.

WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER GREAT YEAR OF BARREL RACING! WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL YOUR FAMILIAR FACES AND HOPEFULLY SOME NEW ONES.
The Northern Barrel Racing League (NBRL) was formed in April of 2012 in order to fill a void for Barrel Racing events in the Northern part of South Australia. We are affiliated with the Australian Barrel Horse Association (ABHA) and operate using a divisional format. For those of you that are new to the concept of divisional barrel racing it is a method of equalizing the competition. Every competitor and horse regardless of age, experience or ability has a chance at succeeding amongst others of similar ability to themselves. Everybody completes their barrel run and the divisions are determined by the final times, the fastest overall time setting the divisions in one second increments.
Eg fastest time of day is 18.0 sec
Division 1 is all times 18.00-19.00 sec
Division 2 19.01-20.01 sec
Division 3 20.02-21.02 sec
Division 4 21.03 – and all times thereafter.
The NBRL host exhibition events both before and after the competition. This is in line with ABHA rules and allows riders the opportunity to school, train, fix problems or simply help ‘environmentalise’ the young horse at an event. The riders have 1.5 minutes to do whatever they wish in the arena, whether it be trot or lope the barrel pattern or just complete a lap around the arena. It’s all in an effort to help prevent & solve problems, educate and expose new horses.
American pole bending is also a feature of the NBRL events in which competitors are timed individually.
All junior riders must wear Australian standard approved helmets and open riders can wear cowboy hats or helmets, no caps please. Neat and tidy long sleeve shirts with collars, jeans and riding boots are also a requirement to ride per ABHA rules. Any saddles may be used providing they of safe standard.
Our events are conducted in a variety of locations within the Mid to Far Nth of the state, having so far held events in Quorn, Whyalla, Wilmington, Carrieton, Peterborough and Auburn we are confident there will be many other venues to also utilize in the future.
NBRL events are fully catered for with hot lunch and drinks available. Spectators are more than welcome with extra excitement now that we have our LCD scoreboard for all to view times as they happen! Bring along your friends and family for a great day out.
We are always looking for event helpers to assist our small committee who are also competitors, so if you can cook a barbie or assist in the canteen we would be more than grateful!
